For years, the technology industry sold a simple promise. Move to the cloud. Let someone else handle the complexity.

But the more organisations embraced convenience, the less control they had. Subscription costs increased. Terms changed. Access changed.

In June 2026, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5. Three days later, the US Commerce Department issued an export control directive and the model was suspended worldwide. Pipelines were broken. Plans were on hold.

What happens when the landlord changes the rules? Or when someone else changes them for the landlord?
